Leather handbags are an investment, and with proper care, they can last for decades. Here is how to keep yours looking its best.
Daily Cleaning
Wipe your bag with a soft, dry cloth after each use to remove dust and oils. For deeper cleaning, use a damp cloth with a mild soap solution, then dry immediately with a clean cloth.
Conditioning
Apply a leather conditioner every 3-6 months to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking. Use a small amount on a soft cloth and rub in circular motions. Let it absorb for 30 minutes, then buff with a dry cloth.
Storage
Store your bag in its dust bag, stuffed with acid-free tissue paper to maintain its shape. Keep it away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and humidity. Never store leather in plastic, as it needs to breathe.
Avoiding Damage
- Keep leather away from water — if it gets wet, dry it naturally away from heat
- Avoid contact with dark clothing that may transfer dye
- Do not hang bags by their straps for long periods, as this stretches the leather
- Use a leather protector spray for bags you carry daily
Hardware Care
Wipe metal hardware with a dry cloth to prevent tarnishing. For stubborn spots, use a jewelry polishing cloth. Avoid getting polish on the leather.
